It was an awesome Halloween this year.
We have a favorite pumpkin patch that we have visited for the past 2 years. It is run by a local landscaping company and they do not charge admission... and you get to walk into the pumpkin patch and actually cut your own pumpkins off the vine. I love that! But this year... they never put up their OPEN sign... by mid-October I was really getting worried and did not want to go to a crowded pumpkin park.. or just pick up my pumpkins from the grocery store... so I called the landscaping company and asked what was going on. He said they really just didn't want to do it anymore so they donated most of their pumpkins... BUT, he said we could come by and pick out some pumpkins if we wanted, so we did! It was great. Just the family, walking around the pumpkin patch picking out perfect pumpkins!

We had plans of doing a family costume theme, either Monster's Inc, or Toy Story, but it just never panned out... So I started to look at alternatives for the boys. My next biggest idea was for Levi to be a crocodile crawling around and Scott would be Steve Irwin, but I couldn't find a crocodile outfit that lived up the vision in my head. So... the google search started and I found this super adorable alien costume on Ebay and had to have it for my bubbers! He made the perfect alien and it was very warm for him so I didn't have to worry about any coats. As for Scott... well, he loves firetrucks so the thought of a fireman did cross out minds, but we were trying to keep ourselves open to other ideas. We found his costume at Target and since he really wasn't into wearing it much (I don't think he really understood he was a fireman) we decided not to spend any more money on a fancier costume if he wasn't going to wear it. We pretty much had to tell him he couldn't go trick or treating unless he was wearing the jacket and hat, or else he wouldn't be wearing it at all.

I also had it in my mind since pretty much last year when I preggo with Levi that Halloween 2010 would be the first annual Scott and Levi Halloween Party for all of his friends. It turned out great. I wanted to keep it very simple this year since all of his friends are very young and not many of them could do an organized game just yet, we just kept it as a large playdate style for all the parents to see the kids in costume and eat pizza and cupcakes...

Speaking of my cupcakes. I am very happy with how they turned out. I wanted something special for the kids, but yet simple since I had to make so many. I had regular sprinkle cupcakes with orange frosting to make a pumpkin top (with a pretzel for a stem).. then I melted tootsi-rolls and reshaped them into all the pieces of jack-o-laterns. So the kids got to "carve" their own jack-o-latern cupcakes and then eat them!! I think all the kids had fun playing and the parents got to socialize about their weekend plans. Thanks everyone who came!!!
Then, on Sunday, it was officially Halloween!!! My town had trick-or-treating hours starting at 3 so we got the boys dressed and handed out some candy first to some of the local kids. Then Scott started to get ansy, so we decided it was time to do our first official trick or treating visit. We had been practicing so he would know to knock and say "trick or treat" and that they would give him candy. He was a pro! He was loving it and ready to do the whole town! We only had one fear when we approached a scary decorated house with a mechanical witch on the front porch, but the owner could see Scott was scared and brought out the candy to him.
He was loving it so much that after Daddy's turn taking him around the block, he came back home and 'trick or treated' me! He knocked on the door, took the candy and said thank you as he walked away! So funny!

It was a great year and we have lots of great memories for Scott's first year actually going door-to-door, Levi's first costume, and of course, the first annual Halloween Party!
